Dear Broker, here are your updates for this week...

Easy addition to your Web site can improve search ranking and conversions

Adding biographies of your leadership and other customer-facing staff members to your Web site is a great way to improve both the search rankings of your site as well as convert more site visitors into leads. While there are best-practice guidelines to maximize the results, writing and posting bios is inexpensive and easy.

A higher ranking in search engine results means more free traffic landing on your site. Relevant content is one of the top factors in improving your placement in search results. Biographies of your staff are an easy way to add more content to your site. More information on the quality of the people at your company also improves the credibility and benefits you display to visitors on your site. Bios also serve to "humanize" your company, as it is likely that most applicants will never have the opportunity to meet you and your team face-to-face.

Here are some basic rules to follow when writing biographies that will be posted on your Web site:

Remember the goals: more traffic, higher conversion rate. You are writing your biographies for this purpose, not to win an award or impress an industry insider.

Include the benefits of your product and services. For instance, "Jane was instrumental in creating our flexible financing options" or, "Bob is responsible for ensuring we exceed customer service expectations."

Include pictures of individuals and groups wherever possible. Visitors to your site will take comfort - and be more likely to become a prospect - if they see that your people are "real" people too.

Use keywords often (but not too often). Think of the keywords that you and your competitors bid on through Yahoo! and Google AdWords. Sprinkle those keywords throughout your bios for maximum effect in improving your search rankings. For instance, "Lucy has over ten years of experience financing commercial trucks and equipment, especially start-up garbage truck financing and start-up tank truck financing."

Distinguish your people in any way possible, such as certifications, experience and expertise. Include information that may create a connection between your people and your vendor and end-user prospects. For instance, "Joe learned the business as a member of a truck dealership's in-house financing department" or "Beth grew up in the construction industry - her family owns an excavating and concrete business."
